MotoGP: "Sometimes it's a matter of having a bit of luck... I believe we can improve," says Miguel Oliveira.

In an interview held this Friday (07), Miguel Oliveira justified the early end of his participation in the MotoGP qualifying session in Portimão. The Portuguese rider managed to put together some good laps in the final phase of his participation in the session, but soon afterwards had to return to the pits.

"On the out lap, where I was about to do the time attack with the new tires, it started raining heavily. I went back to the pits and only had time for one time attack, so I did three laps and finished early because of the fuel, which made the bike lighter and I wouldn't have been able to finish the session."

When asked about the possibility of a good result in Q1, which will be held on Saturday (08) and which, according to the weather forecast, will have more stable weather, Miguel said that the session is the most complicated of the weekend.

"Sometimes it's about having a bit of luck and seeing what we can do. I believe we can improve, but whether it will be enough to get through [to Q2]... I don't know, but I will certainly do my best."

The Portuguese player told the press that he believes it's possible to maintain the consistency of his recent rankings.

"Realistically, we've been stuck in the fifth or sixth row of the grid. Repeating or improving on that will already be good, given our performance today."

Oliveira claims there is no justification for Yamaha's drop in performance on this circuit, where the team has previously achieved good results.

"If I could explain it, it would be easy, but the reason is difficult to understand even for us. The hope is that tomorrow we can reduce the gap and improve the pace, especially."
